Once you become engaged
Coordinate with a priest or deacon who can celebrate and prepare your file.
Complete the inquiry form. An inquiry does not hold a date.
As soon as possible
Attend an Archdiocesan marriage preparation program and give the certificate to your preparing minister.
Complete FOCCUS or the Catholic Couple Checkup as he directs. Complete the prenuptial questionnaires with him. Affidavits of freedom to marry may be required.
No earlier than six months before
Once you are within six months of your wedding date, request a newly issued baptismal certificate from the parish where you were baptized. Ask that parish to send the certificate directly to the priest, deacon, or pastoral minister preparing your canonical marriage file. Do not send baptismal certificates, prenuptial papers, or other confidential sacramental records to Saint James Chapel. Your preparing minister assembles the complete file and submits it to the Rector at least 30 days before the wedding.
About 90 days before
Complete the rehearsal and music selections provided by the wedding team.
60 days before
A Cook County marriage license is valid for 60 days and must be obtained at least one day before the wedding. Bring it to the rehearsal.
30 days before

About 14 days before
Return the rehearsal and music forms so they are ready for the week-of team update.
Week of the wedding
